
‘Cats Retain 704 Cup; Cruise Past Cross-County Rivals, 83-56

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In addition to winning its ninth straight, Davidson women's basketball retained the 704 Cup with a convincing 83-56 victory over cross-county rival Charlotte Thursday afternoon inside Halton Arena.
Continuing their best start in program history, the Wildcats will enter the New Year and conference play 11-1 overall.
Maddie Plank led five Davidson players in double figures with a game-high 17 points on 7-of-7 shooting. Sylvie Jackson (14), Suzi-Rose Deegan (14), Mallorie Haines (12) and Millie Prior (11) also cracked the 10-point plateau for the 'Cats, who torched the nets for 55.4 percent, including a 10-of-19 effort from long range.
Davidson was just as impressive at the defensive end of the floor holding the Niners to just 36.4 percent, while forcing 19 miscues.
Tied 17-17 after 10 minutes, the 'Cats grabbed control of the contest when they opened the second quarter with an 18-2 streak capped by one of Haines' four treys on the day.
Leading 38-25 at the break, the Wildcats put the game out of reach with another lengthy spurt to close the third quarter highlighted by a pair of triples from Jackson.
The margin ballooned to as many as 38 midway through the final frame on a Plank layup.
Olivia Porter led the way for Charlotte (7-5) with 13 points.
