Men's Soccer Slowed at UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – The Davidson men's soccer team was handed their third loss of the season with a 3-1 decision at Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats were able to strike first in a rainy, cold afternoon in Amherst. Vincent Bennage was fouled in the box in the 10th minute setting up a penalty kick for Denis Krioutchenkov. The Milwaukee native converted the attempt for his seventh goal of the season.
The rest of the way it was all UMass. The Minutemen were able to even the score in the 28th minute on a goal from Nick Zielonka.
It remained a 1-1 game until the 78th minute when Massachusetts struck again. The Atlantic 10's leading scorer, Alec Hughes, broke the tie and scored his 12th goal of the year to put the home team ahead, 2-1.
UMass added an insurance goal in the 85th minute to secure a 3-1 win over the Wildcats.
Saturday marked the most goals allowed by Davidson in a game this year, and the Wildcats were out shot, 12-5 in the contest.

The men's soccer team will conclude the regular season next Saturday against Rhode Island. The team will also celebrate senior day prior to the 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
