Wildcats Upended on Senior Day

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's soccer team was shutout for just the second time all season as they fell to the Rhode Island Rams, 2-0, in their final game of the regular season on Saturday.
Needing a win to clinch the regular season crown, the Rams shocked the Wildcats with an early goal. Kevin Castaneda snuck a left-footed shot through the Davidson defense and past Lou Liedtka in the 7th minute to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. Liedtka also exited the game in the 24th minute due to an injury.
The Rams took the 1-0 lead into halftime despite the Wildcats sending out ten shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Davidson nearly equalized the game less than ten minutes into the second half when Vincent Bennage got a head on a cross into the box, but the attempt rolled inches wide to the left.
In the 70th minute, Rhode Island deflated the Wildcats sails when they were fouled in the box and buried a penalty kick to take a two-goal lead. That score stood as Davidson fell to 9-4-1 on the year and 5-3 in conference play.
With the loss, Davidson will await the results of the remaining A-10 slate before finding out where they will be seeded for postseason play.

The Wildcats will look to turn the page quickly and prepare for the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament which is set to begin next Friday.
