DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson College men's soccer team is set to host the Duquesne Dukes in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Tournament on Friday night. It will be the first postseason game hosted by the Wildcats since 2018.

Last Meeting
These two teams met inside Alumni Stadium back on October 4 with Davidson coming out on top 2-1. The 'Cats scored twice in the first 25 minutes with goals from Denis Krioutchenkov (17th minute) and Luke Bryant (25th minute) to pull ahead early. Vincent Bennage had two assists while Eamon Moylan and Nico Quanbeck were credited for assists as well. The Dukes got on the board in the 83rd minute via penalty kick goal before the Wildcats held on for the final seven minutes to earn the victory. Davidson out-shot Duquesne 17-10 in the contest and those 17 shots were the fourth highest total on the year for the Wildcats.

State of the 'Cats
Davidson enters the A-10 tournament having lost back-to-back games for the first time all season. The Wildcats fell on the road to UMass back on October 21 then, dropped the regular season finale at home to Rhode Island last Saturday, 2-0. Prior to those two games, Davidson was on a three-game win streak and cracked the Top-25.

Fortunately for the Wildcats, they were in a similar situation the last time they squared off with Duquesne. On September 30, the 'Cats were handed just their second loss of the season at Fordham before bouncing back four days later with a 2-1 win over the Dukes.

Despite the recent struggles, the 'Cats still have one of the most explosive scoring duos in the Atlantic 10 with Denis Krioutchenkov and Vincent Bennage. The pair of Wisconsin natives have combined for 33 points, 13 goals, and seven assists. Krioutchenkov ranks third in the A-10 in shots on goal (22) and tied for fourth in goals (7) while Bennage sits tied for fourth in points with 17.

Goalkeeper Lou Liedtka still leads the conference in save percentage (79.2%) and is tied for the league lead in shutouts with seven.

About the Dukes
Duquesne enters the A-10 Tournament on the opposite trend as the Wildcats: riding a two-game winning streak. The Dukes defeated La Salle, 2-1, in their last time out on October 28 and also won a midweek non-conference match over Wright State, 3-2, on October 25.

The Dukes also travel to Davidson with the league's highest scoring teammate duo in the conference and arguably the most dangerous offensive threat coming into the tournament.

Midfielder Ekeland Ask has 16 points in his last nine games, the most by any player in the conference during that span. Eight of those 16 points have come in the last two matches alone where he recorded three goals and a pair of assists. He also ranks second in the league in goals (11) and points (25), and he is fourth in shots on goal (21).

Opposite from Ask, Duquesne striker Jayden Da comes into the weekend with seven goals (T-4th in A-10), three assists for 17 points (T-4th in A-10). He scored the Dukes' lone goal in the previous meeting between the two teams on a penalty kick.

In goal, the Dukes have the Atlantic 10's leader in saves with Zoltan Nagy between the pipes. Nagy has made a total of 82 saves which ranks fourth most in Division I and averages 4.82 saves per game, a mark that is 14th best in the country.

Things to Note
  • In the all-time series, Davidson is undefeated when facing Duquesne at home at 4-0-1. The only draw came last season in a 1-1 stalemate.
  • The Wildcats are still looking for their first win in the Atlantic 10 Tournament since joining the league back in 2014. They are 0-4 all-time in A-10 postseason play.
  • Dating back to 2014, Duquesne is 3-4 in A-10 postseason play with two road wins.
