Newman, Wildcats Post Event Wins at Richmond Duals

HAMPTON, Va. — Fourteen event wins and two tight team scores highlighted the Davidson swimming and diving teams' first day at the Richmond Duals.
The Davidson women won 10 events in a 152-147 loss to Richmond and will now face Duquesne on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Davidson men won four events and trail George Mason 102-100 halfway through a two-day competition with the Patriots.
Anna Newman led the way with three individual event wins, including in the 100 breast (1:05.07), the 200 breast (2:21.81) and the 200 IM (2:09.26).
Sylvia Stewart-Bates won the 500 free (5:06.75) and the 1,650 free (17:21.30), and diver Annica Valmassei swept the 1-meter (238.90) and 3M (265.80) events.
Chale Jacks touched first in the 100 fly (58.09), and the Davidson women won two relays.
Newman, Jacks, Ann Thompson and Martha Tripsa swam to first in the 200 medley relay (1:45.91), and Tripsa, Addy Donaldson, Jessie Cline and Leah Sandock won the 400 free relay (3:33.25).
For the Davidson men, Dylan Felt won the 1,650 free in 15:42.56 and teamed with Ben McClain, Mitch McClain and Jeremy Kemp to win the 400 free relay (3:04.74).
Kemp, Andrew Schou, Miles Charles and Guil Ware won the 200 medley relay in 1:31.79. Diver Ben Cutforth had the best 3M score (259.40).
