'Cats Score Season-High 23 Goals Against Dukes

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's lacrosse team scored a season-high 23 goals in a commanding 23-14 victory over Duquesne in Atlantic 10 league play on Friday night.
With the win, Davidson improves to 10-2 on the year, 7-0 at home, and 3-1 in conference play, while goalkeeper Amanda Monahan made a season-high 15 saves to earn her ninth win of the year.
The 'Cats had 10 different goal scorers in the win, with Molly Murphy scoring a career-high three goals, and Gianna New recording a team-high five goals. Erin Cooke led the offense with a game-high seven points, from three goals and four assists, while Julianne Carey won seven draw controls. On defense, Noelle Cegielski anchored the Wildcats with three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Davidson jumped out to an aggressive 6-1 lead in the opening frame, before the Dukes rattled off a 6-1 run of their own and tied up the game, 7-7, with 7:13 to go in the first half. Thanks to back-to-back scores from Carey, the Wildcats pulled away to a 9-7 advantage for the break, and ultimately held onto their lead for good.
The Wildcats out scored Duquesne 14-7 over the last 30 minutes of play, while Monahan and the Davidson defense stifled the Dukes to secure the victory.
