DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's lacrosse team will hit the road for its final trip of the regular season this weekend, set to take on VCU on Thursday at 2 p.m. and #19/20 Richmond on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Complete coverage for both games can be found at davidsonwildcats.com/coverage.
THIS WEEKEND… As the regular season draws to a close, Davidson's final three games of the A-10 slate will hold playoff seeding implications. With a win over VCU, the 'Cats will solidify a top-4 seed in the A-10 Tournament and boost the 'Cats into their 12th win of the season, marking the most wins in a single season since 2014. A win over VCU will also mark the second-straight season where the 'Cats have won a program-best, six Atlantic 10 league games, with a chance to make history by adding another win over #19/20 Richmond on Saturday.
THE MATCHUPS… Davidson will meet VCU on Thursday afternoon, with a 4-2 all-time series advantage over the Rams. Both of the Wildcats' losses to VCU have come in overtime, while the 'Cats are 2-1 when meeting the Rams both on the road and at home. Saturday's contest will be a heavily anticipated rematch for the 'Cats, as Davidson fell to the then No. 12 Spiders, 15-11, in Richmond in their lone meeting last season.
THE LEAGUE ON NOTICE… The Atlantic 10 has been forced to pay attention to the Wildcats' lineup this season, as four different 'Cats have captured weekly honors from the league. Amanda Monahan was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week after the opening week of the season, while Grace Fahey, Erin Cooke and Gianna New have all tabbed Player of the Week nods. As Davidson's netminder, Monahan has matched her career-best 10 wins in a single season again this year, while ranking seventh in the nation with a .506 save percentage. Fahey, Cooke and New are Davidson's top-three goal scorers and points holders, while leading Davidson's offensive attack, which currently ranks first in the nation in free position shot percentage (.564).
LOOKING AHEAD… The 'Cats will close out the regular season at home against top-seeded UMass, who currently ranks 14th in the IL Women's Poll and 17th in the IWLCA Coaches Poll. The two teams met last season in the A-10 Championship's semifinal round, where the Minutewomen ousted Davidson 14-7.
