'Cats Win Sixth Straight, Defeat Elon, 5-2

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson women's tennis won their sixth straight match on Saturday, defeating Elon 5-2 at the Davidson Tennis Courts. The Wildcats move to 7-2 on the season and the Phoenix move to 7-4 overall.
"The team has been working very hard in practice and it has paid off," head coach Susanne Depka said. "Elon is an extremely tough opponent to face both physically and mentally. Everyone rose to the challenge today and I am so impressed with how they performed. This is definitely a sweet victory and will be enjoyed, but I know we also need to focus and be prepared for another match tomorrow."
The 'Cats earned the doubles point as duos Josie Schaffer and Kavya Patel as well as Elizabeth Truluck and Mira Gladstone earned 6-2 and 6-3 victories, respectively.
Schaffer went on to earn a pair of 6-3, 6-3 set victories over her opponent at the No. 1 spot. Emma Heiderscheit took home a three-set win, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (0) and won her match with a 10-6 tiebreaker.
Franny Shea and Patel also registered singles victories for Davidson. Shea defeated Alison O'Dea 6-4, 6-0, while Patel's 6-2, 6-4 victory over Julie Ball clinched the match for Davidson.
