DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson women's tennis won their seventh straight match in a row on Sunday, recording their third straight 2-0 weekend this season, dating back to their Feb. 19 match against Richmond. The 'Cats defeated Gardner-Webb in a thrilling 4-3 fashion in Boiling Springs, N.C., pushing their record to 8-2.
"After a great battle and win yesterday, we knew we would need to be mentally strong, stingy and resilient," head coach Susanne Depka said. "We were able to do just that today and bring home another win. This group continues to be a unit and help each other out every match. It's great to see and fun to coach them.
They will have some well deserved time off until spring break which I know will be an amazing trip as well as some exciting matches."
Davidson locked up the doubles point thanks to victories from duos Josie Schaffer/Kavya Patel and Emma Heidersheit/Franny Shea. Patel and Shea won their singles matches but with three singles victories of their own, Gardner-Webb had evened up the score. It all came down to Mira Gladstone's match. She won the first set at 6-2 and took the second set all the way to a tiebreaker, grinding the 7-6 (3), to clinch the match for the Wildcats.
