Stanley Wins, Records Fall at A-10 Championships Thursday

GENEVA, Ohio — Davidson Wildcats set two school records — and an Atlantic 10 Conference mark —Thursday on the second day of the A-10 Swimming and Diving Championships at SPIRE Institute.
Shelby Stanley won, set school and conference records and earned an NCAA B cut in the 200 IM, then joined Abby Francis, Martha Tripsa and Chale Jacks on the silver-medal 200 free relay team, which also set a Davidson mark.
Stanley, last year's A-10 Most Outstanding Performer, posted a time of 1:57.89 in the 200 IM to win by 1.31 seconds.
Francis, Tripsa, Stanley and Jacks then swam to a time of 1:31.84 in the 200 free relay.
Francis added a fourth-place finish in the 50 free (23.13), while Jacks took seventh in the event (23.41).
And Siena Senn swam out front in the 500 free consolation final with a time of 4:51.87, which was third-best among all finalists.
For the Davidson men, the 200 free relay was the top finish Thursday, as Ben McClain, Seth Carden, Guil Ware and Ian Brann took fourth (1:20.93) and missed a program record by 0.20 second.
McClain placed eighth in the 500 free (4:33.23), while Brann was 10th in the 50 free (20.67).
In diving, Drew Sheldon and Ben Cutforth went 7-8 with scores of 228.35 and 226.45, respectively.
Through two days, George Washington leads the team scores, with Davidson in third (women) and fifth (men).

Friday's action begins at 10 a.m. with prelims in the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and women's 3M diving. Finals are set for 6:30 p.m.
