McClain's Win Leads Wildcats On Third Day in Ohio

GENEVA, Ohio — Freshman Ben McClain swam out front in the 200 free Friday night to lead the Davidson men on the third day of the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships at SPIRE Institute.

McClain's win is the first for the Wildcat men in the meet. Seeded third after morning prelims, he posted a time of 1:37.95.

The Wildcat men, fifth in the standings through three days, picked up a second medal Friday from Cael McLaren, who earned bronze in the 100 breast (54.91).

The 400 medley relay of Thomas Broderick, McLaren, Miles Charles and McClain took fourth in 3:16.88, and Owen Curry placed seventh in the 400 IM (3:58.10).

Charles swam eighth in the 100 fly (49.08), while Broderick was eighth in the 100 back (49.47). Andrew Schou (100 breast, 55.85) and Jeremy Kemp (100 back, 49.66) won consolation finals.

The fourth and final day of competition begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with prelims in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 1,650 free and men's 3M diving. Finals are set for 6 p.m.
