Wildcats Renew Rivalry with Charlotte, Host Inaugural 704 Cup

THE SERIES
- Wednesday's tip off will be the 32nd meeting all-time between the 'Cats and 49ers, and the first with a trophy on the line, as the visitors down I-77 hold the all-time series at a 19-12 advantage.
- When Davidson visited Charlotte last season, the 'Cats had one of their best performances of the year, shooting 56.6 percent from the floor and downing the 49ers, 79-65.
- Elle Sutphin scored a team-high 20 points, while Adelaide Fuller scored 16 and Suzi-Rose Deegan scored her first double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 boards.
- Last season's win over Charlotte was just the fifth for Davidson since 2000.
LAST TIME OUT... Tomisin Adenupe scored a career-high 15 points and Elle Sutphin added 17 to lift the Wildcats past Elon, 74-72, in non-conference women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon. In total, five Wildcats scored in double figures for the first time since January 2020 as Suzi-Rose Deegan and Chloe Welch scored 12 points apiece and Issy Morgan reached a season-high 11 points.
MILESTONE MARKERS... Davidson women's basketball is closing in on 500 wins in the 44th season of the program's history. With four wins so far this season, the Wildcats have collected 498 wins in program history. Other milestones on the horizon are two newcomers to the 1,000-point club as fifth year Chloe Welch has 953 career points to date and senior Rosie Deegan has 880.
NOTEWORTHY... The 'Cats have shot 50 percent or better five times this season, and are 4-1 when doing so.
A LOOK AHEAD... Davidson will play one more home game in 2022, welcoming Morgan State to campus on Wednesday, Dec. 28 for a 5 p.m. tip off on McKillop Court. From there, the 'Cats will head to A-10 rival Fordham for a New Years Day tilt on CBS Sports Network at 2 p.m.
WELCH'S WORLD... Fifth year guard Chloe Welch made her triumphant return on Sunday, after a nine-game absence, scoring 12 points and grabbing five rebounds. The Colorado native went 8-of-10 from the free throw line, and scored six of the Wildcats' 11 fourth-quarter free throws to secure the two-point victory over Elon.
