Stanley, McClain Sweep A-10 Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — It's all Davidson Wildcats at the top of this week's Atlantic 10 Conference swimming awards.

Shelby Stanley and Ben McClain swept the A-10 Performer of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. They each won three individual events in the Wildcats' team wins over William & Mary Friday afternoon.

It's the second weekly honor for each this year, with Stanley, a junior, also honored Oct. 19 and McClain, a freshman, named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Nov. 23.

Stanley, last year's A-10 Most Outstanding Performer, won the 100 fly (56.49), 200 fly (2:05.88) and 200 IM (2:08.29) in the Davidson women's team's 182-112 win over the Tribe. She also joined Julia Goodhead, Anna Newman and Martha Tripsa on the victorious 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:45.40.

McClain raced to freestyle wins against William & Mary, as the Wildcat men posted a 186-107 team victory. McClain won the 100 (46.65), 200 (1:41.72) and 500 (4:46.41). He also swam with Ty McLaren, Jeremy Kemp and Ian Brann on the 400 free relay, which won with a time of 3:07.36.

The Wildcats are back in action this Saturday at UNCW in their final dual meet before the A-10 Championships.
