
Flyers Fend off Wildcats, 70-60

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcats outscored the University of Dayton in two quarters of Atlantic 10 basketball on Sunday afternoon, but a 21-4 third quarter for the Flyers allowed the visiting team to pull away with the 10-point, 70-60 victory.
Adelaide Fuller scored a team-high 17 points, while Issy Morgan and Chloe Welch joined the Aussie in double-figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Morgan went 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and Welch added six rebounds and three assists as the Wildcats dropped to 3-4 in Atlantic 10 play and 12-7 overall. With their win today, the Flyers improve to 7-0 in league play and are winners of 10 straight.
The 'Cats jumped out to the first lead of the day on Sunday afternoon, building to a 5-3 advantage early with a layup from Fuller and Welch's first of three treys. After a 4-of-7 (57.1%) effort from beyond the arc in the first, Davidson managed to hang with the Flyers, who shot 54.5% from the field, and trailed just 21-19 going into the second. Down 27-24 with six minutes left in the half, Cameron Tabor sank a turnaround jumper that cut Davidson's deficit to one and kick started a 10-5 run for the Wildcats, including back-to-back Welch 3-pointers, which handed the 'Cats a 34-32 lead going into the break.
Davidson's halftime lead would be its last for the day, as the Flyers held the Wildcats to just 1-of-11 shooting from the field in the third quarter and pulled away with a 15-point, 53-38 advantage with 10 minutes left to play.
Still battling in the fourth, Davidson outscored Dayton 22-17 and came back within seven after a Cassidy Gould 3-pointer capped off a 12-2 run to make it 65-58. But despite the surge, the Flyers had already the created the distance they needed to secure the A-10 win.
Overall, Dayton won on the glass 53-31 and outscored the Wildcats 34-22 in the paint.
