DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Former NC State forward and the top-ranked women's basketball player in North Carolina from the class of 2020, Elle Sutphin, has joined the Davidson Wildcats' program and will play with the team beginning in the 2021-22 season.
"We are very excited Elle chose to be a Wildcat," said head coach Gayle Fulks. "Having watched her over the years, she was always a player that I've really admired. She plays with an incredibly high motor, has a well-rounded skill set, and an infectious, positive personality."
Originally in East Surry High School's 2020 class, Sutphin reclassified in the summer of 2019, graduated early and spent two seasons as a part of the NC State Wolfpack. As a redshirt freshman during the 2020-21 season, Sutphin appeared in 16 games and had a career-best outing against NC Central, scoring nine points and grabbing three rebounds.
"Everyone we've spoken to regards Elle as an unbelievable teammate, relentless worker, and a great role model in her community," Fulks added. "Those attributes, along with her skill set and high motor, will make her a perfect fit for our Davidson Wildcat family."
A familiar face in North Carolina, Sutphin was a standout at East Surry, averaging 21.9 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in her final season, while leading her team to the NCHSAA Class 1-A title game. Through her high school career, she earned nods from the Winston-Salem Journal's All-Northwest Team, USA Today's First Team All-North Carolina and a five-star stamp (39th nationally ranked recruit) from ESPNW.
"Davidson is a very pristine college with an awesome basketball atmosphere," Sutphin said of her decision. "I feel honored to be a part of this program and family. I love the style of play, and the winning morale this team portrays. I cannot wait to develop relationships and to be a part of the Davidson community."
