Three More Records Fall for Women's T&F at USC Open

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Three more program records fellas women's track and field competed at the USC Open hosted by South Carolina Saturday.
For the second time in six days the 4x100-meter relay team of Cassandra Blau, Kate Carnevale, Meghan Corso and Kierra Marshall posted a school record effort. The group raced the baton around the track in 47.67 seconds, .03 faster than their time at the Mason Spring Invite last Sunday. Carnevale went 25.20 seconds in the 200-meter dash, while junior Marquia Humphries stopped the clock at 25.74.
For the fourth time in as many tries, junior Anna Davis reset the program record in the 400-meter hurdles, lowering it to 1:00.96 and placing ninth. Freshman Chloe Davis was right behind her teammate in 1:01.93.
Freshman Megan Burkholder continued to rise in the pole vault, clearing 3.60-meters (11'9.75) to tie Stephanie Hautamaa's program best. Burkholder cleared the bar on her second of three attempts.
Senior Eleni Daughters placed second in the 800-meter run with a strong outing of 2:11.11 after doubling back from the 1500-meters earlier in the day. Sophomore Kelsey Troutman took sixth overall in 2:16.85, while classmate Liz Simms rounded out the top 10 on the day in 2:18.58.
Daughters led a contingent of personal record setting 'Cats in the 1500-meters. Daughters jumped into the top 10 all-time with a third-place result, stopping the clock at 4:35.05. Sophomore Breila Fuller (4:42.73) and senior Caroline Willis (4:44.25) were the next Wildcats across the line.
Senior Grace Loehr went 57.30 seconds in the 400-meter run, slightly lowering her all-time fourth-best placing in the event from 57.34 set at the Vertklasse Meeting. Sophomore Rachel Horowitz also lowered her top-10 time, crossing the line at 58.19 seconds.
Sophomore Hannah Kanjian stretched the tape nearly five meters further then her previous best in the javelin, marking a throw of 33.02-meters and jumping up to third all-time at Davidson.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Humprhies, Loehr, Rachal Horowitz and Bianca Nolde-Lopez placed fourth in 3:49.05. Freshman Frances Whitworth took sixth in the 3,000-meters with a time of 10:29.05.
Davidson returns to the track Friday, Apr. 23 for the opening day of the Charlotte Invitational.
