Whitworth's All-Rookie Run Leads Wildcats at A-10 Championship

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – The Davidson women's cross country team was the first to compete in an Atlantic 10 Championship this academic year when they toed the line at Pole Green Park Friday, Mar. 5.
 
The A-10 XC Championship happening a few months later than normal did not affect freshman Frances Whitworth who led the 'Cats across the line in her first collegiate championship race and earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. The Winston-Salem, N.C., product crossed the line in 24th place at 18:16.0. Whitworth led Davidson in both races this season.
 
Davidson sophomore and 2019 A-10 All-Rookie runner Natalie Abernathy was next into the finishing chute at 26th, stopping the clock at 18:22.1.
 
The Wildcats placed ninth as a team with 198 points. Duquesne (92) edged Dayton (94) for the team title, while Rhode Island's Lotte Black took the individual title.
 
The final three Wildcat scorers all came in under 19 minutes led by senior Caroline Willis (18:47.9). Juniors Anna Kathryn Kilby (18:50.7) and Rachel Shapiro (18:57.9) rounded out the scoring contingent.
 
The distance squad joins the rest of the Davidson track and field team Friday, Mar. 19 on the first day of the Charlotte 49er Classic.
