DURHAM , N.C. -- The Davidson men's tennis team commanded the pace of play against N.C. Central on Saturday and never let up, as the Wildcats cruised to a 6-1 non-conference victory over the Eagles.
The 'Cats edged out the doubles point to begin the day, as Maxwell Kachkarov and Ogden Timpson picked up a crucial 6-4 win from court two. With Yash Parikh and Douglas Macintosh making their debut as the No. 1 doubles team this season, the duo fell in a 4-6 battle before Camden Mazzoni and Sam Kavarana grabbed a win on court three by default.
With the early advantage, Kavarana and Kachkarov kept the momentum going for Davidson as the two snagged two-set victories from courts two and one, respectively. Kavarana topped NCCU's Baran 6-1, 6-2 while Kachkarov squeezed out 6-3 and 7-5 scores at the No. 1 singles slot.
Mazzoni clinched the win for the 'Cats, as the senior battled through three sets after falling behind in the second to settle the score 1-1. From court four, Mazzoni was forced into a third-set tiebreaker, and came out on top with a 7-4 tiebreaker victory.
Brooks Green and Timpson also earned points for Davidson, with Green collecting a two-set win on court five and Odgen winning by default at court six.
Davidson improves to 5-9 on the year with Saturday's result, and will be back in action next Friday, at home, to take on Xavier.
