CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Davidson men's track and field team wrapped up their first outdoor meet since 2019 Saturday at the Charlotte 49er Classic.

"Today was a great meet, and as good of an opener as we could possibly hope for," said Director of Men's Cross Country and Track & Field Renny Waldron. "The guys have been looking forward to competing again for a year now, and they made the best of it."

Posting a pair of win for the 'Cats were sophomore's Owen Drometer in the 800-meter and Josh Hardin in the 400-meter run.

Drometer narrowly edged out Austin Carroll of Charlotte, stopping the clock at 1:51.84, just six hundredths ahead of the runner-up. Junior Raphael Oettl and sophomore Miles Kominsky posted top-eight performances, as well.

Hardin snapped the tape in the 400-meter run with a strong showing of 48.66 seconds, jumping him into the top-10 all-time in his first outdoor meet. He also competed in the 200-meter dash and took fifth.

Late in the meet, Ben Gordon Sniffen battled the wind in a second-place 5k performance.

Junior Corey Gaither claimed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.96 seconds. Earlier in the day he took fifth in the 110-meter hurdles. With the wind at their backs, Nick Tompkins took fifth in the 100-meter dash, while Jordan Benson and Gaither posted top-five results in the 110-meter hurdles. Benson also cleared 1.95m (6-feet, 3.75 inches) in the high jump, the second highest clear of the meet.

In the throwing circle, sophomore Dylan Lageman and freshman Jack Stajos went 4-5 in the shot. Lageman stretched the tape 13.41m (44-feet), Stajos 13.09m (42-feet, 11.5 inches).

On the runway, sophomore Dylan Ameres was second in the long and in the triple. Senior Langston Stephens landed in the pit third in the triple.

"We had solid performances all around, in every area, and we are looking forward to continuing to get better and grow as a team."

Davidson returns to the track Friday, Mar. 26 for the opening day of the Raleigh Relays.
