CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After more than a year layoff from competition, the Davidson women's track and field team returned to competition at the opening day of the Charlotte 49er Classic on Friday.

Showing little rust in their return, the Wildcat multis duo of sophomore Hannah Kanjian and junior Hazel Tankard posted a strong showing in the opening four events of the heptathlon.  Kanjian jumped out to an early lead with an impressive 14.80 second 100-meter hurdle performance. The Jupiter, Fla., product also earned the most points over the high jump bar, clearing 1.66 meters (5-feet, 5.25-inches), and finished the day in the top spot with 2,948 points. Tankard also had a strong outdoor debut, earning 2,594 points in day one of the season with three events to conclude the competition Saturday.

The rest of the Wildcats head south for the final day of the 49er Classic tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m. with the multis athletes.
