Davidson Improves to 3-1 with Win at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- The Davidson women's lacrosse team improved its season record to 3-1 this afternoon, after beating Campbell University in a commanding 17-7 win on the road.
With the win, the 'Cats have now won three-straight, and are averaging 14.3 goals per game. Keeper Amanda Monahan collected her third career win and made 11 saves along the way.
Freshman Julianne Carey had a stand-out day, as the rookie collected a game-high five points off two goals and three assists. The five points also sets a new career-high for Carey. Jane DiGregorio and Sam Rippley also led the Wildcats offensively, with each scoring a team-high three goals. For Rippley, it marked her second straight game with 3+ goals, while DiGregorio set a new career-high.
Davidson led just 3-2 through the first 13 minutes of work, but an Emma Johnson goal at the 15:21 mark led the Wildcats to an offensive explosion, scoring four goals in a row until Campbell found an answer. With a 7-4 lead and just over seven minutes to go in the half, Gianna New got into the scoring mix and pushed the advantage to four. Over the final stretch of the half, Davidson outscored its opponent 4-0 to head into the break with a comfortable 12-4 lead.
The Wildcats tacked on five more goals in the second half, three of which came from DiGregorio alone, to pull out the 17-7 nonconference win. Davidson was favored in shots on goal, 27-18, and forced Campbell into 21 turnovers. The 'Cats had a season-low 17 turnovers and was 15-18 on clear attempts.
Davidson is back in action on Wednesday, March 3 for a 4 p.m. game at High Point.
