BOONE — Head coach Adam Denton saw improved play from the Davidson women's soccer team in the second half at Appalachian State Thursday night, but the Wildcats came up short 1-0 on the scoreboard.
"We made some technical adjustments, competed a lot better and created some good opportunities, more of an even game," Denton said of the second 45 minutes. "Disappointing to lose the game, but we take a lot of positives out of the game, especially in the second half and how we adjusted our system and played a better half."
The night's only score came on a penalty kick by Appalachian State's Olivia Cohen in the 61st minute.
Davidson held a 7-4 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge on corner kicks, while Appalachian put three shots on goal. Davidson's lone shot on goal came off the foot of Hailey Braemer in the 68th minute. She lofted it to the top right, but Appalachian keeper Kerry Eagleston was there to stop it.
Remi White and Gretchen Pearson had three shots apiece.
Davidson's Mary Grace Bunch made two saves in goal, one in each half. She stopped Jordan Grigsby's shot in the 39th minute and corralled Emma McGibany's attempt in the 78th.
