‘Cats Bounce Back with 4-2 Win at La Salle

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – In addition to Henry Howell netting a pair of goals, Davidson found the back of the net three times in the second half to defeat La Salle, 4-2, in Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer action Saturday afternoon inside McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, the Wildcats move to 7-4-1 overall and back to level in league play at 2-2-1. The Explorers drop to 3-8-0 and 0-4-0.
A senior midfielder from Bradenton, Fla., Howell put the 'Cats in front 1-0 with a penalty kick 7:45 into the match.
Not long after, La Salle evened the score with a goal from Omari Cotterell that was assisted by Dominick Bachstein and Sam Decencio.
After going to intermission tied, Davidson broke open the game early in the second period with direct free kick strikes from Howell and Cam Abernethy in the 53rd and 61st minutes, respectively.
Like Howell, Cotterell put together a two-goal day for the Explorers as he cut the deficit back to one score at the 83:13 mark.
With just over four minutes remaining, Benjamin Gilligan put the game out of reach with a tap in following a Wildcat counter attack. Gilligan's first goal in a Davidson uniform was set up by Nico Cavallo.
Davidson put nine of its 10 shots on target, while Michael Zemanek led both keepers with a personal-best seven saves en route to his first career win in just his second start.

The Wildcats will conclude their three-game road swing Tuesday when its travels to nationally-ranked Virginia Tech for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
