'Cats Compete at ITA Carolina Regional

CARY, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcats competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Carolina Regional this past weekend, taking on some of the toughest Division I competition across the region.
Representing the 'Cats in both main draws was Maxwell Kachkarov, Juan Camilo Perez Gongora, Sam Kavarana and Udday Singh.
Out of the 128-player singles slate, Kavarana picked up a win against College of Charleston's Johnny Wang in a 7-6 (5), 6-3 decision. Later that day, Kavarana took on USC's James Story, who ranks No. 12 nationally, falling 0-6, 2-6. Kachkarov also earned a regional singles victory, downing Wofford's Max Graham 6-2, 6-3 before dropping the Round of 64 match to a top-15 opponent.
In doubles play, Kavarana and Perez Gongora teamed up to represent Davidson along with the doubles duo of Kachkarov and Singh. Kachkarov and Singh battled Duke's sixth-ranked unit of Heller and Zhang in a 0-6, 4-6 loss while Kavarana and Perez Gongora competed against Wofford's Endler and Young in a 3-6, 1-6 decision.

The Wildcats will return to the courts Oct. 29-31 and head to the beach to compete at UNC Wilmington.
