Davidson Drops Match to No. 16 Demon Deacons

WAKE FOREST, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcats traveled to regional foe, Wake Forest University this afternoon, looking to pick up their first win of the 2021 season. In taking on the Demon Deacons, the 'Cats were faced with taking on the No. 16 team in the nation, after Wake had defeated No. 20 South Carolina earlier in the day. Despite hard fought battles, the Deacs ultimately defeated Davidson, 7-0.
Freshman Maxwell Kachkarov highlighted the day, as the rookie entered the day at 1-1 in singles matches. The New York native battled on the No. 3 court, and forced the match into three sets, including two tiebreaker sets to determine a winner. Kachkarov lost the first set 6-4, but came back and won set two, 7-6, before falling 1-0 in the match-clinching third set. Yash Parikh battled from the first court for the third time this season, falling by 6-4 and 6-1 scores.
Sam Kavarana (No. 2), Brooks Green (No. 4), William Clark (No. 5) and Alejandro Solares (No. 6) all fell in two sets during their respective singles matches.Â
Rookies Kachkarov and Solares competed on the No. 1 doubles court for the second time this season, falling 6-3, while Camden Mazzoni and Clark also fell 6-3 in the third doubles matchup. From court No. 2, Douglas Macintosh and Parikh fell 6-1.
Davidson will return to action next Sunday, Feb. 7, to take on Campbell University back home in the Knobloch Tennis Center.
