DAVIDSON, N.C.  — The Davidson men's tennis began a busy week with their fourth straight win to open the season by taking a 6-1 decision at home Tuesday against USC Upstate in the Knobloch Indoor Tennis Center.
Â
The Wildcats, who will also play at Furman and Wake Forest this week, are off to a 4-0 start. USC Upstate remained winless at 0-3 and fell for the fifth time in the past seven matches in the all-time series to Davidson.
Â
"It was a nice win for the team today," said head coach Drew Barrett, who collected 142nd career win at Davidson. "The doubles play was key and gave us good momentum into singles, and both Tommy (Mason) and Brooks (Green) had strong comebacks after losing their first sets, helping seal up the team win."
Â
In the doubles, the duo of Axel Fries and Douglas Macintosh rolled to a 6-1 decision at No. 2, while the team of Matthew Rose and Yash Parikh secured the first team point with a 6-3 victory at No. 1.
Â
The Wildcats then dominated in singles play, taking five of the six positions with three of them in straight sets.
Â
Parikh nailed down a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 to give him a 3-1 record on the season, while Sam Kavarana matched Parikh's season record after scoring a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Â
Camden Mazzoni won his first singles match of the season in dominating fashion with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
Â
Mason and Green both overcame first-set defeats of 6-4 and 6-3, to easily earn wins at No. 3 and No. 5 with second and third-set wins of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 1-0 (6). Mason remained perfect to start his senior season, moving to a team-best 4-0, while Green stayed perfect as well at 2-0.
Â
Davidson will rest up a few days before traveling to Furman and Wake Forest this weekend, Feb. 8-9. Match times are set for 1:00 and 4:30 p.m.
