BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Playing the second of three matches this week, Davidson won its second straight with an impressive 6-1 road win at Gardner-Webb Saturday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats evened their season record at 3-3, while GWU fell to 2-2 on the season.
"We made some strides in doubles today and will need to make some early investments and be aggressive right from the start tomorrow vs. Elon," said head coach Susanne Depka. "We competed in singles and I am proud of how well the team did playing outside for just the second time this season. We made no excuses and did many things well all around today."
For the second time in six matches this season, the 'Cats opened the match by sweeping all three doubles positions, which was a battle all the way to the end. At No. 1, Samantha Armas and Emma Heiderscheit pulled out a 10-4 super tie-breaker for their second win of the season.
Teaming up for the first time was Alyssa Hahn and Elizabeth Truluck, as the duo also pulled out a thrilling tie-breaker, 10-6. The new doubles team of Nicole Krykanov and Franny Shea closed it out with a 7-5 win at No. 3.
Singles play was led by Alexandra Abele at No.1, who won her fourth straight match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory to run her season record to 4-2.
At No. 2, Samantha Armas came away with a three-set win, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, while Mira Gladstone at No. 4 secured a 10-4 super tie-breaker win in her first set before closing it out with 6-4 decision.
