BOSTON – Davidson Director of Women's Track and Field Jen Straub brought five scholar-athletes to the competitive BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational Friday and will return home with three school records.
The Wildcats took full advantage of the banked surface at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center on the Boston campus.
Junior Eleni Daughters broke her own record from a year ago at the same meet, stopping the clock in 2:08.98 to place 25th out of 259 competitors in the field. It is the second record Daughters has snapped so far this season. The Pasadena, Calif., native previously broke the 1000-meter record on Jan. 25 at the BU Terrier Classic. She also holds the outdoor 800m record (2:08.26).
Wildcat sophomore Bianca Nolde-Lopez broke her own program record in the 400-meter run, stopping the clock in 55.94 seconds. It is the second time she has broken the quarter mile mark at BU this season after resetting the standard at the Terrier Classic. Nolde-Lopez placed top 15 among collegiate runners and 19th overall in a field that surpassed 200 entries.
Davidson's final record to fall took a full team effort. Daughters, Nolde-Lopez, freshman Rachel Horowitz and junior Grace Loehr reset the 4x400-meter relay record, racing the baton around the track in 3:48.16. Four of the six fastest 4x400's in program history have been run this season.
Earlier in the meet, Loehr placed high in the 500-meter run, taking 10th overall with a time of 1:15.82. The mark is just outside of her personal best (1:15.69) and is the fifth fastest time ran in school history.
Horowitz ran a new personal best in the 200-meter dash, stopping the clock in 25.66 seconds. Her performance is the third fastest in program history behind a pair of Katie Hines' marks.
Classmate Alexis McDonell opened the meet for the 'Cats with an 18:05.86 performance in the 5,000-meter run, placing 18th in her section and 25th out of 46 competitors.
The women next see the track Saturday, Feb. 29 on the opening day of the Atlantic 10 Championship at Mackal Fieldhouse hosted by the University of Rhode Island. The indoor championship runs through Sunday, Mar. 1.
