
Women's T&F Post Three Wins at JDL College Team Challenge

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The women's track and field team opened a busy weekend of competition with three wins at the JDL College Team Challenge Thursday night at JDL Fast Track.
Freshman Natalie Abernathy paced the field in the opening track event, stopping the clock over 3,000-meters in 10:29.05. Senior Paige McKinney kept pace with her teammate, placing third with a time of 10:34.94. Sophomore Anna Kathryn Kilby also placed within the top eight while breaking 11 minutes. Caroline Yarbrough '19 still holds the meet record with her time of 9:53.19 set back in 2015.
Davidson had a dominant showing in the 800-meters led by freshman Liz Simms victory, placing four among the top eight led by freshman Liz Simms. The Butler, Pa., native led a pack of three 'Cats across the line, stopping the clock in 2:17.97, a new personal best. Classmate Kelsey Troutman also lowered her personal standard with a second-place time of 2:19.17. Junior Caroline took third (2:22.08), while sophomore Leah Sarkisian (2:26.48) was sixth.
The Wildcats weren't done showing off their mid-distance prowess when it came to the mile. Davidson recorded seven of the top eight finished led by senior Maddie Hunter who snapped the tape in 5:12.67. Next across the line was freshman Breila Fuller in third at 5:14.47 and sophomore Rachel Shapiro in in 5:19.67. Rounding out the eight placements, senior Katie MacxTurk, freshman Emily Henkel, senior Emma Pettit and freshman Alexandra Cisneros.
Senior Katie Hines won her heat and took fourth overall in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 25.85 seconds, her fastest time of the season to date. Sophomore Marquia Humphries (26.15) was sixth, while freshman Kate Carnevale (26.73) placed eighth.
Wildcat freshman Chloe Davis took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.18 seconds, while sophomore Meghan Corso was sixth in 9.27 seconds.
Freshmen Cassandra Blau and Carnevale went 7-8 in the 60-meter dash, leaning across the line in 8.07 and 8.12 seconds, respectively.
The Davidson quarter mile contingent took 6-7-8 led by sophomore Sophia Ackerman's 1:01.22. Her teammates, freshmen Nella Tsudis and Bri Burrell, weren't far behind.
The Davidson 4x400-meter relay team of Burrell, Davis, Hines and Humphries took first with a time of 3:58.74.
On the field side, freshman Gracie McBride stretched the tape 10.65-meters (34'11.25) to place third. Classmate Caroline Djakuduel marked a weight throw of 12.33-meters to place fifth.
Davidson returns to the track tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 14 for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
