DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson got its busy week off on a winning note, pulling out a 4-3 match at home vs. Kennesaw State in women's tennis outside at the Davidson Tennis Courts Wednesday afternoon.
Off since the first of the month, the Wildcats' (2-3) match-clinching point came from Alexandra Abele at No. 1 with her three-set victory, right after Emma Heiderscheit and Elizabeth Truluck finished off their own three-set wins.
The Owls opened the match by taking two 6-2 wins at doubles positions No. 1 and 3, respectively, to grab the first team point.
Davidson regrouped in singles, winning four of the six positions, including the three that went to third sets, to earn the team victory.
At No. 5, sophomore Mira Gladstone took a 6-3, 6-3 victory to get the scoring underway for the Wildcats.
Heiderscheit came back from a set down after dropping a tie-breaker, 7-4, to easily pick up wins of 6-0 and 6-2 in the next two sets at No. 4, moving her record to 4-1 on the season with a four-match win streak.
Truluck netted her first win of the season with a back-and-forth battle at No. 2. The sophomore dropped her first set in a tie-breaker, 7-2, but came right back and scored a 6-2 win to force the third set. From there, Truluck was able to pull through with a 6-4 win.
The other three-set winner came from Abele at the top spot, who split her first two sets, 6-4 and 3-6, before securing her third win in a row with a 6-4 decision.
Davidson will have away and home matches this weekend, traveling to Gardner-Webb, Feb. 15, and then hosting Elon the next day, Feb. 16.
