Fischer Pins His Fifth, But Wrestling Falls at SHU

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Davidson sophomore Kyle Gorant won by injury default to stretch his hot streak out to four wins, but wrestling fell on the road at Sacred Heart Saturday, 27-12.
Gorant became the first Wildcat to 10 wins this season, earning six points with an injury default over Pioneer Anthony Petrillo at 133 pounds.
Prior to Gorant's hand raising, freshman 125 pounder Cian Fischer earned his team-leading fifth pin of the season to get the 'Cats on the board in a match that started at 165 pounds.
Senior Hunter Costa ended the dual with a hard-fought sudden victory decision. Down one after two periods, the Danvers, Mass., grappler chose neutral to open the third and landed a shot to force overtime after riding time was counted. Costa landed another shot to seal the win and send the Wildcats home on a high note.
Davidson returns to the mat Saturday, Feb. 8 with a non-conference dual at Edinboro set to start at 1 p.m. The 'Cats then visit nationally ranked number 12 Pittsburgh on Sunday.
