NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson swimmers Brian Hynes and Thomas Broderick have swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Hynes is A-10 Performer of the Week, while Broderick is A-10 Rookie of the Week.
A senior from Earlysville, Va., Hynes turned in the Wildcats' best swim at UNCW on Saturday. He placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:42.14, his best in a dual meet this season. His 200 butterfly time of 1:55.13 was also his best in a dual.
The A-10 honor is Hynes' first.
"Brian has had a standout couple weeks, and I'm thrilled for him to be recognized for his efforts," said Davidson coach John Young. "He trained at an impressive level during our time in Florida, and he looked great on Saturday as he swam his dual meet bests. I couldn't be more excited to see where a little rest takes him."
Broderick, a freshman from Manhasset, N.Y., swam to second in the 200 backstroke at UNCW with a time of 1:55.58. The A-10 honor is also his first.
"Thomas swimming his dual meet best in the 200 backstroke, within 48 hours of his first collegiate training camp, is a harbinger of big things," said Young. "I think Owen Corkery's freshman record in the 200 backstroke could be in play at A-10s!"
