Davidson Wildcats (0-0-0, 0-0-0 Atlantic 10)
Head Coach: Mike Babst (Boston College, 1999)
Career Record: 87-23-12 (7th season) Record at Davidson: 0-0-0 (1st season)
Wake Tech Eagles (0-0-0, 0-0-0 NJCAA)
Head Coach: Omar Asad (NC State, 2012)
-- Davidson will kick-off its 2019 men's soccer campaign Friday evening when Wake Tech visits Alumni Stadium and 1992 Team Field for a 7 p.m. contest.
-- The Wildcats, who are unbeaten in 18 of their last 20 to begin a season, are 35-22-6 all-time in openers.
-- After spending the previous six seasons at the University of Chicago, where he led the Division III program to five NCAA Tournament appearances, including the national semifinals the last two seasons, Mike Babst will be making his head coaching debut for the 'Cats.
-- Babst's teams won four conference championships and went 87-23-12, including 54-6-5 the last three years.
-- Coming off a runner-up finish in the Atlantic 10, its best since joining the league in 2014, Davidson finished 2018 9-7-2 overall and 5-2-1 in conference play.
-- The Wildcats return 11 players that made 10 or more starts last season, including all-conference performers Henry Howell (all-rookie) and Jaylen Thompson (second-team).
-- Howell led the squad with five goals and 14 total points a year ago, while Thompson added four goals and a team-best five assists.
-- Sawyer Gaffney is also back for the 'Cats after recording five shutouts in 2018.
-- September will include just two home tilts as Davidson kicks off the month with a season-long four-game road swing, each against 2018 NCAA Tournament participants. The challenging stretch will begin with a trip to the West Coast to battle Oregon State (Sept. 6) and Portland (Sept. 8).
-- A week later, the 'Cats will head to Greenville, S.C., to battle former Southern Conference rival Furman (Sept. 14), before concluding the challenging stretch three nights later at North Carolina.
