AMHERST, Mass. — Playing the first of two Atlantic 10 road matches over the weekend, Davidson dropped a 5-2 decision to Massachusetts Friday evening in women's tennis.
The Wildcats fell to an even 3-3 in league matches and 10-9 overall, while the Minutewomen moved to 13-4 overall and 3-1 in A-10 play.
The match started off with a tight battle in doubles, coming down to the No. 3 position which went to a tie-breaker. UMass prevailed 8-6 in the tie-breaker to grab the first team point and then went on to take four of the six singles spots for the win.
The duo of Megan Scholvinck and Elizabeth Truluck took a 6-3 doubles win together for their 10th victory of the year.
Scoring the two single wins for the 'Cats were Alexandra Abele and Alyssa Hahn at No. 2 and six positions. Abele claimed a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) decision to run her season record to 12-7 on the year and evened her league mark at 3-3.
Hahn earned her third win of the year with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 decision at No. 6 and also won her first A-10 match of the season.
Davidson wraps up the weekend with a Sunday match, April 7, at Fordham, with match time set for 11 a.m.
