'Cats Reach Semis, Down La Salle 4-0 to Open Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Davidson men's tennis team reached the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship for the second year in a row when it cruised to a 4-0 quarterfinals victory Friday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
The third-seeded Wildcats, who moved to 13-8 on the season, will face off against No. 2 seeded Richmond Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in a bid to reach the championship match.
Just like the regular season meeting vs. the Explorers (5-19), Davidson captured the doubles point to open the match, taking a pair of 6-2 wins at No. 2 and 3 position for a 1-0 lead. The duo of Yash Parikh and Matthew Rose won their first match together at No. 2, while Douglas MacIntosh and Camden Mazzoni picked up their team-best 10th win on the season.
Singles play saw the 'Cats take wins at No. 2, 3 and 5 to secure the win. Parikh and Mazzoni tallied straight-set victories of 6-0, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 and 5 spot, giving the sophomore's their 13th and 11th wins, respectively.
Netting the final team point was freshman Sam Kavarana at No. 3, continuing his stellar first year. The Charleston, S.C., native nailed down a 6-0, 6-3 to jump his record to a team-best 14-4 on the year.
With the three singles wins, Davidson has now collected 70 as a team in 110 matches.
