BOONE, N.C. — Davidson capped off another successful regular season with a 4-2 road win Sunday afternoon at Appalachian State in both team's regular season finale in men's tennis at the Deer Valley Racquet Club.
The Wildcats bumped their record to 12-8 overall as they next prepare for the Atlantic 10 Championship, April 25, in Orlando, Fla.
After both teams split the top-two doubles positions, with Davidson's Alexander Loope and Axel Fries winning 6-0 at No. 2, the doubles point came down to a tie-breaker at No. 3. It went back-and-forth until the Mountaineers (5-19) pulled out an 8-6 decision over the freshmen tandem of Brooks Green and Sam Kavarana, who were playing as partners for the first time.
Davidson though took care of business in singles play, winning No. 2-5 spots to secure the team win. Yash Parikh came back from a set down to earn a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2, his 12th victory on the season.
Kavarana wrapped up a solid regular season with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 to give the freshman a team-best 13-4 record. Of those 13 wins, 11 have come at the No. 3 position.
At the next two positions, Thomas Mason and Camden Mazzoni took care of their opponents in straight sets. Mason won his fourth match on the heels of a 6-3, 7-5 decision. Picking up a 6-3, 6-3 win was Mazzoni to give him double-digit wins at 10 to become the fourth Wildcat this season to reach the double-digit mark in wins.
Davidson finished 5-4 on the road this season.
