
Gaither Wins 110H in Final Day of CCU Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –Davidson went 1-2 in the 110-meter hurdles led by freshman Cory Gaither as men's track and field wrapped up the first outdoor meet of the season, the Coastal Carolina Invitational Saturday.
Gaither snapped the tape in his first collegiate outdoor meet, stopping the clock in 14.90 seconds. Senior teammate Sean Caveney was next across the line in 15.17 seconds. Gaither returned in the 200-meter dash where the Statesville, N.C., native placed third with a time of 21.95 seconds.
Sophomore Miles Hollimon took second in the 100-meter dash, stopping the clock in 11.01 seconds, while classmate Nick Peeples leaned across the line in the 200m in 22.37 seconds, good for ninth overall.
The Wildcats also had a good showing in the field as sophomore Langston Stephens took second in the triple jump. Stephens stretched the tape 13.32-meters (43'8.5) on his final of six attempts.
Daniel Alvarez and Max Higgins went 8-9 in the 400-meter run. Alvarez stopped the clock in 52.84 seconds, while Higgins clocked in at 52.79.
On Friday, freshmen Colin Ross and George Lewis placed top three in the 10k. Ross nicked Lewis at the line, stopping the clock in 32:47.60, just ahead of Lewis in 32:47.67. Both were competing in their first-ever collegiate 10k on the track.
Davidson returns to the track Friday, Mar. 15 on the opening day of the Charlotte 49er Classic.
