Guhman, ‘Cats Roll Past La Salle, 12-3

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Goalie Delaney Guhman and the Wildcat defense shut out La Salle in the first half and Davidson rolled to a 12-3 road win in Atlantic 10 play Friday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
The win snapped the Wildcats four-game skid to push their record to 7-4 overall and they earned their first league win (1-2). La Salle fell to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in A-10 action.
Guhman finished with five saves, three groundballs and a turnover, while the defense in all forced 12 turnovers led by Claudia Becker (3) and Natalie Junior (2) with a combined five.
In playing shutout ball in the first half, the defense forced nine turnovers and won six of the nine draw controls.
The offense took care of the rest, scoring nine goals in the half on 20 shots and earning seven assists.
Leading the way on the day was Lauren Arkell, Sam Rippley, Olivia Carey and Gianna New all with two goals. Arkell and Rippley each added an assist, while Dial had two assists. Emily Weld and Jane Digregorio tallied two points on a goal and an assist.
Arkell, Carey and New each bnetted two goals in the first half as the Wildcats went up 9-0, with New and Carey capping the scoring off on back-to-back goals in the final 1:30. Dial assisted on both goals.
The lead would grow to 12-0 after Weld hit a free-position goal with 16:38 in the second half and the Wildcats cruised the rest of the way.
La Salle's three goals came from Bridget Ruskey, Isabel Caddick and Allison Hunter, while Ruskey added an assist.
Davidson held a commanding 28-15 lead in shots and ended with an 11-5 advantage on draw controls. Sophia Sgroi had a team-best six draw controls.
The Explorers had a slight 22-21 edge on groundballs. For the 'Cats, Annie Beresheim had four groundballs and five others added two each.
Davidson returns home for a 1 p.m. league game against Duquesne on Sunday at Richardson Stadium.
