DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson won its second Atlantic 10 women's tennis match of the season by blanking visiting George Mason 4-0 Sunday morning at the Davidson Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats moved to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in league matches, and regrouped with a win to close out the weekend after dropping a 6-1 decision the day before to cross-county rival Charlotte.
"We did a much better job today actually doing and executing what we are working on in practice," said head coach Susanne Depka. "We need to continue to pay attention to the details within the process, so we can accomplish our goals both individually and as a team, and we will be able to achieve our desired result."
After Mason (9-4, 0-1 A-10) won the No. 1 doubles match, the 'Cats took the next two at No. 2 and 3 to grab the early 1-0 team lead. The pair of Alexandra Abele and Samantha Armas sealed up a 6-4 win at No. 2 to run their record to a team-best 9-4 (3-1 vs. A-10) on the year.
Gabrielle Centenari and Nicole Krykanov also scored a 6-4 doubles win to give them a 7-3 record and remain perfect in league matches at 4-0.
Singles wins by Abele, Centenari and Truluck at No. 2, 3 and 5 positions allowed the Wildcats to win the match. Abele blanked her Patriot opponent, 6-0, 6-0 to bump her season record to 9-5.
Centenari halted a two-match singles losing streak to with a nice 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 3 to clinch the match win and give her six wins on the year. Truluck continued her strong freshman campaign with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 performance at No. 5 to run her record to a team-best 11-3 (3-1 vs. A-10) on the year.
Davidson will now travel to Greensboro, N.C., for a midweek match against UNCG, March 20, at 3 p.m.
