DAVIDSON, N.C.  —
In a battle of cross-county rivals, Davidson was on the wrong end of a 6-1 setback Saturday morning vs. the Charlotte 49ers in a matchup on the Davidson Tennis Courts.

The Wildcats (7-6) dropped their fourth in a row in the all-time series, but still own an 18-15 all-time record dating back to 1978. Charlotte improved to 10-6 on the season.

The doubles point came down to the No. 3 spot and Davidson nearly earned it, leading 5-3 before seeing the 49ers come back and earn a 7-5 decision. The 'Cats team of Megan Scholvinck and Elizabeth Truluck won a 6-2 match at No. 1, running their record to 7-6 on the season.

Singles play saw the 49ers take five of the six positions to seal up the team win. The lone Wildcat point came from freshman Elizabeth Truluck at No. 5. The first-year won a super tie-breaker, 10-6, to secure a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 win, tying her for the team lead at 10 victories.

Mira Gladstone also played a super tie-breaker, but fell 10-4 to drop a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 match at No. 6, while Samatha Armas went three sets but came up empty in a 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 decision at No. 4. It was just the third defeat on the season in 13 matches.

Davidson has a quick turnaround, hosting George Mason tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
