
Wrestling Packs Three Duals in Five Days

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Wildcats hit the mats three times this week, traveling to The Citadel, Wednesday, Feb. 20 and Campbell, Sunday, Feb. 24 with their Senior Night match sandwiched in between on Friday, Feb. 22 against Gardner-Webb.

ABOUT DAVIDSON
The Wildcats wrapped up a tough stretch last week that featured nationally ranked No. 17 Pittsburgh and Southern Conference power Appalachian State. With his win against Pitt, freshman 133-pounder Kyle Gorant took over the team lead in wins with 13. The Coopersburg, Pa., native is 5-3 since the start of the new year including a stretch of four straight wins. Junior Conor Fenn (184 pounds) and senior Tony Palumbo (157) look to improved on their 2-1 SoCon records this week to help their seeding come Championship Sunday on March 10 in Boone, N.C. Davidson boasts four 10-win grapplers for the first time since the 2012-13 season - Gorant (13-9), Fenn (11-13), Palumbo (10-13) and freshman heavyweight Mitchell Trigg (12-12).Â
SCOUTING THE CITADEL
The Bulldogs (1-9, 1-3 SoCon) lone dual win of the season came in a dominant 30-12 victory over Gardner-Webb. Six Bulldogs have posted double digit win totals including Sawyer Root's impressive 30-13 clip at 197 pounds. The middle of The Citadel lineup is also lethal with Rian Burris (21-14) and Dazjon Castro (25-18) at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively.

On Friday night prior to the Gardner-Webb dual Davidson will recognize it's three seniors, Aidan Conroy, Tony Palumbo and Zamir Ode! The three grapplers have been an integral part of the program over the last four seasons.Â
SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
The Runnin' Bulldogs visit Belk for the final Davidson home match of the season. GWU comes to town with a 2-10 record, 0-4 in league duals. Redshirt-senior Tyler Marinelli paces the squad with an impressive 21-2 record and ranks No. 19 at 157 pounds according to Intermat. Freshmen RJ Mosley (165/174) and Kyle Homet (174) and sophomore Evan Schenk also boast double digit wins in their respective weights.
SCOUTING CAMPBELL
The final opponent the 'Cats face in a busy slate are the first-place Fighting Camels. In the latest Intermat rankings, Campbell has a pair grapplers on the list. 149 pounder, Josh Heil, cracked the top 10, coming in at ninth, while Andrew Morgan (174) ranks 18th. The Fighting Camels (6-1, 4-1 SoCon) lone dual loss came at Chattanooga, an 18-12 setback.Â
