Wrestling Hangs Tough in Loss at The Citadel, 20-18

CHARLESTON, S.C. –Davidson wrestling battled, but fell late to The Citadel in Southern Conference road dual action Wednesday night at McAlister Fieldhouse, 20-18.
The Wildcats got off to a fast start in the match that began at 133 pounds. Freshmen Kyle Gorant (133) and Caleb Ziebell (141) each downed their Bulldog opponents with decisions to take a 6-0 team lead. With the win, Gorant improved to 14-9 overall and 2-2 in league bouts.
Down on the scoreboard later in the match, Wildcat juniors Noah Satterfield (174) and Conor Fenn (184) combined for nine points to retake the team lead, 15-14, with two bouts to go. Fenn's quick 1:07 pin was his sixth of the season, tying him atop the team leaderboard with Gorant. The Cumming, Ga., native is now 3-1 in SoCon bouts which will prove beneficial in seeding at the championship Mar. 10 in Boone, N.C.
Davidson freshman Mitchell Trigg was on the offensive early in the final bout of the day, using a first period takedown. After a pair of second frame escapes and a late takedown, Trigg finished off his Bulldog foe, 7-4.
The Wildcats return to action Friday, Feb. 22 for the final home match of the season against SoCon foe, Gardner-Webb. Prior to the 7 p.m. match the Class of 2019 will be recognized for their efforts to the program.
