DAVIDSON, N.C. — Six different players scored in double figures and Davidson as a team set a new single-game record for three-pointers on its way to hitting the century mark in a 101-51 victory Wednesday night against Western Carolina inside John M. Belk Arena.
The Wildcats (4-1), who won their 11th consecutive game in the series, drilled a new school record 14 threes on 25 attempts to break the old mark of 13, which was set back on Feb. 26, 2004. Junior Saeeda Abdul-Aziz tied the record with a triple near the top of the circle with 1:33 to go. Sarah Konstans then broke it with a three-ball from the wing with 51 ticks left in the game and also helped the Wildcats hit the 100-point mark.
The 101 points were the most scored since dropping in a school-record 103 against East Tennessee State, Jan. 22, 2002. It is also just the fourth time overall in program history the 'Cats have reached 100 points in a game.
Davidson opened the contest hitting 11-of-20 shots, including 5-for-7 from behind the 3-point line for a 31-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. It finished the game shooting a season-best 53.7 percent (36-for-67) and went 15-of-20 from the charity stripe.
Suzi-Rose Deegan, fresh off a 31-point outing her last game, led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Konstans and Cameron Tabor with 14 points each. Tabor also dished out a season-high six dimes and swished home all four of her three-point tries.
Sarah Donovan, in just 12 minutes, had 12 points, while Chloe Welch and Abdul-Aziz chipped in with 10 points apiece. Abdul-Aziz hit all three of her field goals from three-land for a career-high.
Adelaide Fuller helped Davidson hit the 40-rebound mark for the fifth straight game (43) with a season-best eight boards to go with seven points. Alana Davidson set career bests with four points, three rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
Western Carolina (1-6) had three double-digit scorers, led by Jewel Smalls' double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Lauren LaPlant and Andrea Martin Ruiz each scored 11, with Ruiz dishing out seven assists.
The Catamounts finished the game shooting just 32.3 percent, including only 7-of-27 from three-point range.
Davidson begins a four-game road trip, starting with Virginia Tech Sunday at 5 p.m.
