Deegan Claims A-10 WBB Rookie of the Week

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.. — After helping lead Davidson to a 2-0 weekend in Kansas City, Mo., freshman Suzi-Rose Deegan was honored by the Atlantic 10 today by being named the Rookie of the Week for games played from Nov. 11-17.
The Wildcats won both of their consolation games for the Preseason WNIT against UC Irvine (78-72) and Kansas City (74-64) last weekend, and Deegan played a big part. The shooting guard was named the MVP for the weekend and earned a spot on the all-tournament team with Katie Turner after she averaged 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 55 percent from the field (16-of-29) including 5-of-10 from behind the arc.
The freshman from Australia had a breakout game vs. the KC Roos, scoring a season-high 31 points on 13-of-19 shooting and 4-for-8 from three-land. Deegan came up big in the fourth quarter with 13 points and was clutch in the final two minutes. With the 'Cats clinging to a one-point (60-59) lead with under 2:45 to go, Deegan scored eight straight points on a pair of three-pointers and a layup to push the advantage out to 68-59 and 40 seconds to go. Davidson never looked back in securing the 10-point win.
Deegan also had 13 points in the second quarter and finished the game with a season-high three assists, a block and steal.
In Friday's win against the Anteaters, Deegan had an eight-point, six-rebound effort off the bench to go with a pair of steals and assists.
This is the first career award for the freshman and marks the eighth time Davidson has collected a rookie of the week honor since joining the A-10 in 2014-15.
Davidson is next set to face Western Carolina at home this Wednesday, Nov. 20, for a 7 p.m. game.
