DAVIDSON, N.C. — Head coach Gayle Fulks announced today the signing of Sallie Schutz to a national letter of intent to join the Davidson women's basketball program for the 2020-21 campaign.
"Sallie is a tremendous addition to our Wildcat Family," said Fulks. "She is an elite shooter with an expansive skill-set that will translate well to our style of play. Beyond basketball, Sallie is committed to being an excellent student and person of integrity, and at Davidson, that is equally important in our program."
Schutz is a native of Watkinsville, Ga., where she attends Westminister Christian Academy and plays for head coach Chandler Deep. As a junior last year, she averaged 26.3 points per game for the varsity WCA team.
Meet the Class of 2024…
Sallie Schutz
Position: Guard/Forward
Height: 6-2
Hometown: Watkinsville, Ga.
High School: Westminister Christian Academy
Athletic Honors: Three-time all-state and all-region … averaged 26.3 points per game last year as a junior … reached the 1,000-point mark during junior season … dropped in a career-high 47 points and hit eight three pointers in a game … swished home 92 percent of free throws last year … also a letterwinner in softball … academic honors- a Honors student … uncle Doug Schutz played basketball at Western Carolina.
Coach Gayle's Scouting Report: Sallie is one of the best shooters and scorers in the country. Her combination of size and skill make her a very tough matchup for opponents and will give our offense and defense additional flexibility. She has been battle tested playing on a very competitive AAU team, and should have a quick adjustment to the physicality and speed of the college game.
Why I Choose to Attend Davidson: "I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a Wildcat! Coach Gayle has built a Davidson basketball program that emphasizes team play and offers a competitive but encouraging atmosphere. I am so excited to be a part of this program. The coaching staff truly invests in the person, player, and student. As a college, Davidson has elite academics and community spirit that makes it feel like home. Davidson is such a special place! It provides a perfect blend of academics, athletics, and community."
