Davidson Competes in Third Fall Event at Elon Invite

ELON, N.C. — Davidson continued its busy Fall W. Tennis season this past weekend, Oct. 5-6, when it traveled to play at the Elon Invitational at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The Wildcats faced host Elon along with Richmond and Longwood over the weekend.
Eight players registered at least one singles win, with six of them earning a pair of wins, while in doubles play, six different Wildcat teams came away with wins on the weekend.
In singles play, Elizabeth Truluck, Mira Gladstone, Emma Heiderscheit, Josie Schaffer, Nicole Krykanov and Franny Shea all collected two wins each. Truluck came away with wins of 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-1 against Longwood. Fellow classmate Gladstone needed an extra set against her Phoenix opponent, taking a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 decision, before then winning a super tie-breaker against Longwood in a 6-2, 3-6, 10-4 match.
The freshmen duo of Heiderscheit and Schaffer had wins against Longwood and Richmond. Heiderscheit claimed a 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 deicsion vs. the Lancers and then got a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 decision against the A-10 foe Spiders. For Schaffer, she rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win vs. Longwood and then pulled out a close 7-5, 6-3 match against Richmond.
Freshman Shea joined in with her two wins coming by the scores of 6-3, 6-7(2), 10-1 and 6-3, 7-5 against Longwood and Richmond.
Nicole Krykanov had a solid weekend in singles and doubles. She picked up a 4-6, 7-6(7), 10-5 win against longwood and then nailed down a 6-1, 6-3 decision against her Richmond opponent. In doubles play, the red-shirt sophomore teamed up with three different teammates to pick up wins. Krykanov and Schaffer won a 6-2 match vs. Elon, then she teamed with Alyssa Hahn for a 6-2 win against Longwood before capping the weekend with a 7-6(9) decision against Richmond with partner Alexandra Abele.
Abele (6-3, 3-6, 10-5) and Armas (0-6, 6-2, 7-5) each picked up a win on the weekend in singles against Longwood and Elon, respectively. In doubles, Armas teamed with Truluck for a 6-4 win against Longwood.
Hahn also added another doubles win with Truluck, a 7-5 decision against Elon.
Davidson takes a break after three straight Fall events the past three weekends and will return to the hard courts, Oct. 24-25, at the NCCU Tournament as well as the North Carolina Regionals, Oct. 24-27.
