
Donovan and Turner Named to A-10 All-Preseason Teams

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Atlantic 10 Conference wrapped up its women's basketball preseason coverage by releasing its annual all-preseason teams Thursday morning and for the fourth year in a row, the Davidson Wildcats placed at least one player on one of the three teams with the junior duo Sarah Donovan and Katie Turner garnering all-preseason honors.
Donovan was named to the preseason all-first team, while Turner earned a spot on the second team.
"I'm very excited for Sarah and Katie on their selection to the pre-season all-conference teams," said head coach Gayle Fulks, who's team was picked fifth in the preseason poll Tuesday. "I'm happy that their consistency of play over the past two seasons is recognized by our league's coaches. We are counting on their leadership and experience as we strive for a championship this season."
Donovan and Turner are both coming off stellar sophomore campaigns. A native from London, Ontario, Canada, Donovan was named the A-10 Most Improved Player and earned all-second team honors after pacing the league in rebounding (9.2 rpg) and averaging 12.9 points per game. She registered 11 double-doubles, which was the most since Mackenzie Latt in 2014-15, and had 14 double-digit rebounding games overall on the season.
The forward's 293 total rebounds were the second-most in a Wildcat single season and her 170 made field goals were good for ninth place. Donovan had the first four 20-point outings of her career last year, while scoring in double digits 27 times overall.
A native of Reno, Nev., Turner helped paced the Wildcat offense, which topped the A-10 in scoring (66.0 ppg), all season on her way to earning A-10 All-Third Team. The point guard averaged 12.2 points per game and dished out a career-high 138 assists (4.3 per game), the second-most in the A-10. The assists also ranked fifth on the 'Cats' single season list, while her 58 made three-pointers were good for 10th.
Turner scored in double figures 23 times last year to push her career total to 41. Of those 23 games, she hit the 20-point mark three times. In two seasons she has already scored 732 points and nailed 133 career three-pointers, which ranks in the top-15 all-time in the Wildcat record books.
The season begins for the 'Cats, Nov. 5, when they play host to Georgetown at John M. Belk Arena for a first-time matchup for both women's basketball programs.
Joining Donovan on the the A-10 All-Conference First Team was Dayton's Jayla Scaife, Fordham's Bre Cavanaugh, George Mason's Nicole Cardaño-Hillary, Saint Louis' Ciaja Harbison and VCU's Tera Reed. In addition to the three preseason teams, the league also had an all-defensive team with Scaife, George Mason's Jacy Bolton, Brooke Flowers of Saint Louis, Danielle Hammond and Taya Robinson from VCU earn a spot on it.
