Davidson Completes Fall Season at ITA Carolina Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team concluded its 2019 Fall season by participating in the ITA Carolina Regionals over the weekend, Oct. 25-27, on the campus of Wake Forest. There were 130 players from 23 different teams that competed, with the Wildcats sending four of its own players.
Play started on Thursday with qualifying singles rounds, and the round of 64 and round of 32 in doubles. Elizabeth Truluck had the best results for Davidson as she reached the main draw with a pair of qualifying singles wins. The sophomore scored two three-set wins, starting with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 triumph over Iryna Vardanian of Coastal Carolina and finishing off with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 decision vs. Laura Marti of Clemson.
Truluck then lost in her first match in the main draw to ninth-seeded Lexi Keberle of N.C. State, 6-2, 6-3. She was able to play two consolation matches, pulling out a 6-4, 6-4 win before her singles run ended with a 6-3, 6-4 setback.
Samantha Armas also completed in the qualifying draw, but dropped a 7-5, 6-1 to second-seeded Marqaux Maquat of Charlotte. The senior came back to earn a 7-6, 6-7, 10-8 exhibition win.
Alyssa Hahn took part in the B1 singles draw and won a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 match against her opponent from Wake Forest, but the fell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, to Bethany Lacey of Presbyterian. The junior did play one more singles match, getting a 6-2, 7-5 win.
The 'Cats other singles player was senior Alexandra Abele, who competed in the main draw and fell to No. 9 Alle Sanford of North Carolina, 6-1, 6-0.
Doubles saw Abele and Armas team up as well as Hahn and Truluck. The first duo won 8-1 in the main doubles draw over a pair from Coastal Carolina, but then lost 8-1 to a team from Wake Forest. Abele and Armas did get one more match in, scoring an 8-3 win.
Hahn and Truluck lost in their first match to N.C. State, 8-1.
