Davidson Competes in Third Fall Event at UNCG Invite

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team competed this past weekend, Oct. 12-13, at the UNCG Spartan Invitational on the campus of UNCG. The Wildcats faced host UNCG along with Elon and North Carolina A&T, collecting 21 total wins in singles and doubles.
Freshman William Clark led the way in singles play, winning all three of his matches against the Spartans, Phoenix and Aggies. He had a 6-4, 6-3 win vs. UNCG and then followed up with 6-3, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-1 decisions in his next two matches.
Earning a pair of wins over the weekend was Yash Parikh, Camden Mazzoni, Brooks Green and Thomas Mason. The sophomore Parikh had a 6-2, 6-4 win vs. UNCG and then claimed a 6-3, 6-2 decision against his North Carolina A&T opponent. Mazzoni also took both his singles matches in straight sets against the same opponents, scoring wins of 6-4, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-4.
Green took a super tie-breaker win vs. Elon in a 6-4, 6-7, 1-0(7) victory and then rolled in his match vs. N.C. A&T with a 6-1, 6-1 decision. The senior Mason had another solid Fall event, pulling out a super tie-breaker win against Elon after falling in his first set, 1-6, 7-5, 1-0(7), and then nailed down a 6-1, 6-2 victory against the Aggies.
Axel Fries and Douglas Macintosh rounded out the singles winners, with Fries coming up with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph against N.C. A&T and Macintosh scoring a 6-1, 6-2 win against UNCG.
Five different doubles teams netted a win over the weekend and three of those teams picked up two wins each. The duo of Macintosh and Clark had victories of 6-3 and 6-4 against N.C. A&T and UNCG. Fries and Alexander Loope allowed just six games in their 6-2, 6-4 wins against the Aggies and Spartans, while Parikh and Matthew Rose secured a couple of 6-4 wins against N.C. A&T and UNCG.
Rose also teamed up with Clark to earn a 6-2 win against a duo from Elon, while Mason and Green pulled out a tie-breaker win vs. UNCG, 7-6(3).
Davidson will next take part in the USTA/ITA Regionals this weekend, Oct. 18-21, in Cary, N.C.
