NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Freshman Sam Kavarna claimed his first weekly award by earning the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for men's tennis, as announced today by the league office.
Kavarna helped Davidson win its season opener vs. Boston, 7-0, last Friday by scoring his first collegiate singles win with a straight-set 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 4.
The freshman from Charleston, S.C., becomes the fifth Wildcat since the program joined the A-10 to win rookie of the week.
Davidson stays at home and will next host Winthrop, Jan. 27, for a 1 p.m. match.
